"It Came from Outer Space"

was one of the first 3-D Science Fiction movies ever
made and is now considered a cult classic. Russell
played a telephone lineman in this one, unlike the
scientists he usually played in his sci-fi films. The
scientist roles were precursors, he says, to playing
the Professor later in his career. This movie took
limitless energy because it had to be filmed in its
entirety twice - once in 3-D and once in regular 2-D.

"Attack of the Crab Monsters"

"A lot of sci-fi fans ask me about another classic,
"Attack of the Crab Monsters",
which was so bad it's good. "Crab Monsters" was a 1957 drive-in favorite, directed by Roger Corman, who made a reputation in Hollywood for producing films quickly and with very little money. I have to admit, Roger Corman did some amazing things with what little he had. Roger is an important man in film history. He gave many young actors, like Jack Nicholson, their break. He was a directorial tutor to such greats as
Peter Bogdonovich, Joe Dante, Martin Scorsese and Ron Howard.

It's absolutely amazing to me that the sci-fi films I made eons ago have become popular over the years. I thought they would die the minute they came out, but "Crab Monsters" ended up making a million dollars!"

From Russell's book, "Here On Gilligan's Isle".
